Bruno Balvanera works with clients in structuring and deploying complex FDI projects in numerous fields including amongst others Fintech, Renewable Energy, Agriculture, Real Estate, Infrastructure and Sustainable Tourism with a focus on CIS and Eastern European countries. Together with the MG Law team, Bruno advises on the international financing possibilities from a wide range of options as well as the regulatory framework of FDI projects.
From 1996 to 2020 Bruno worked at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in a variety of positions. His last responsibility was Managing Director of Central Asia based in Kazakhstan from where he led a regional team of more than 170 staff in 6 countries (Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan) with 7 main resident offices and an additional 7 satellite offices with the specific objective of supporting the development of SMEs in the region. Previous positions included Regional Director for Caucasus, Moldova and Belarus based in Tbilisi, Georgia for 6 years, Regional Head for 7 offices in Russia, based in Moscow, Head of the Saint Petersburg Office, Head of Business Development and Syndications Officer based in London.
Bruno has more than 35 years’ experience in the development banking industry. A national of Mexico and France, he started his career in Mexico City where he worked for the 2 leading development banks, Nafin and Bancomext particularly on structuring project finance deals in Latin America in a wide range of sectors including: tourism, telecoms, infrastructure and oil & gas.
Bruno majored in Industrial Engineering at the Universidad Iberoamericana and later obtained a degree in Finance at the ITAM, in Mexico. Bruno then obtained an MBA degree from University of Chicago Booth and was the President of his student associations both at undergraduate and master’s degrees levels.
Bruno has served on the Board of the Caribbean Development Bank and of a telecommunication company.
